I love you means i choose you.

Ever felt so in love that you feel like your head is in the clouds? Ever wondered how messy and bitter your life could become without that someone you call the love of your life? Ever felt your heart beating louder than a drum as you approached that someone your heart calls love? Yeah yeah, that is the sweet result of reactions in the brain that trigger dopamine and serotonin, the famous love hormones. It is so hard to see flaws in someone who give you the feeling similar to the one you get when your favorite food is being served but today, I want to shed some light on the other side of love that most people ignore.

My best friend once told me things like Nova, it is so easy to love light! Show me your darkness and let’s see if I can tolerate it! As far as I can see, love is not that thrill, that feet off the ground and head in the clouds feeling. It is something deeper than that. It involves sharing your happiness, screwing up together, being a team, cherishing each other, embracing each other’s darkness and then at the end of the day, choosing that one person over and over again. I love you means I choose you, your flaws, your imperfections, your darkness, your insecurities, your weaknesses, your strengths, your perfection and so many more. It means that I love all that you are, all that you will become and that I will keep choosing you no matter what.

It means that I will offer you a helping hand and a shoulder to cry on. It means that I will hold your hand and help you to be the best you can be. It means that I will love you enough to forgive you when you mess up, and that I will keep seeing you as someone I loved in the first place. They say that love is a beautiful thing, even poets and dreamers swear by the name of love but once handled carelessly, love can bring bitterness and heart break. I pray that true love finds you.

YOU ARE NOT YOUR MISTAKE

Do you remember the first time  when you messed up and made a mistake? Do you regret that you made that mistake? You are not alone. I screwed up more than once, I made mistakes that I wish I could go back in time and delete, and I am ready for doing some more. Six years ago, one of my teachers told me that people learn by mistakes. Back then, I thought it was just a simple sentence until I grew into a person who was able to analyze things by herself. Sometimes people are scolded for making some sorts of mistakes but today, I just want to talk about the sunny side of mistakes and how they can result into something beautiful. I want to shed some light on mistakes as something that has power of taking someone from one level of maturity to another.  I want to even show you how you can let go the of the guilt caused by past mistakes (though you can’t reverse the damage), to embrace your present mistakes, to learn from them and to be prepared for future mistakes.

In 1928, sir Alexander Fleming had mistakenly invented penicillin. Fleming who was often described as a careless lab technician did this when he was experimenting with influenza virus in the Laboratory of the Inoculation Department at St. Mary ‘s Hospital in London. Penicillin is the known antibiotic that revolutionized the field of Medicine since its discovery. I used this example just to show you that not all mistakes are bad as they sound and to tell you that once we learn how to handle them positively, mistakes can be beautiful and useful. We all have learned everything we know now and the first time we learned what we know was not the time we became experts in them. We made a lot of mistakes through the process and at the end, we mastered what we know now.  The first time I cooked Spanish tortilla, I burnt one side and the other side was uncooked and yet I took pictures and send them to my friends who in turn said that the dish looked delicious. Dear reader, the power possessed by mistakes that I mentioned above lies in accepting your mistakes, taking responsibility of your mistakes, embracing your mistakes, and not letting them define you. You are not your mistakes though they make a great part of your growth journey. Accept them. You are not perfect, right? We all aren’t anyways! Making mistakes is not the end of the world and there is always a chance of correcting your mistakes. Take responsibility of your mistakes. Don’t run away from them, do not let guilt consumes you and please, apologize if you have to. That is how your mistake will be your stepping stone to the new level of maturity. Embrace your mistakes, do not let them tear you down, do not let them make you think that you are not a good person or that you can’t change. YOU ARE NOT YOUR MISTAKE. Don’t let them define you.

The fear of making a mistake is itself a mistake dear reader! I can’t guarantee you that you won’t make any mistake in the future but always remember this. If you have made a mistake (even though you feel as if they can’t be reversed/forgiven), life had to happen that way and so it has to go on! We learn by making mistakes, we grow from making mistakes.

Good old days...

Hello everyone! It’s poetry time! Six years ago, our English teacher asked us to write poems. I was so excited since poetry runs in my blood.  To her surprise, in not more than ten minutes, when others were still struggling, I presented to her a piece of paper with a sonnet on it and she was like wow! Nova you’re amazing!  Sonnets are poems of love and once in our lifetime, we fall in love and we run out words to express how we feel…that is where poetry slides in! Today I want to share with you one of the poems I wrote 5 years ago, it is called captive princess. I only edited it so that it sounds a little bit better.

Captive Princess

I felt it right from the start

I felt it as I was counting the stars

Like a thief you came unexpectedly

Like a victim I surrendered willingly

You said that your soul belonged to the forests

I said that mine belonged to the nests

You said you were swifter than an arrow and

You promised to wipe away my sorrow

Oh sweet nature I call Barbara’s

Oh bright blissful morning of that day

Oh lovely wind that was blowing when we met

Oh happy feeling when I realized that I was your captive princess.
